Day 01:

Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour

We begin our 7-day Dudh Kunda trek package with a relaxed sightseeing tour of Kathmandu. After breakfast, we take a private vehicle and head to nearby Kathmandu Durbar Square. The ancient city square is a cultural hub with vibrant architecture, temples, wood and stone carvings, and fascinating historical sights. Kathmandu Durbar Square, locally known as Basantapur, provides plenty of exploration opportunities for visitors. You can relish the sights of the intricate designs on the temples, explore the art and history museum in the ancient palace, or stroll through the bustling alleys and visit the hip cafes packed with a juvenile crowd.

After Kathmandu Durbar Square, we head to the hill-top Buddhist religious destination of Swyambhu or the Monkey Temple. Here, you will find several ancient relics, monasteries, temples, and a huge Buddhist stupa. Swyambhu is also a viewpoint of Kathmandu offering a panoramic view of the valley.

From Swayambhu, we take an hour-long drive through Kathmandu’s busy traffic toward the Pashupatinath Temple. Day 02:

Kathmandu to Phaplu Drive

Today, our journey to Dudh Kunda begins. After breakfast, we get on a private vehicle to Phaplu offering comfortable seating and sufficient storage space. The journey is filled with scenic beauty as we drive through winding roads, charming villages, and lush green hills.

After covering approximately 175 kilometers, we reach our first stop at Ghurmi. Enjoy a hearty meal while relishing the serene surroundings. After lunch, the drive continues to the Solu region. You’ll make your way through the panoramic vistas of rolling hills and snow-capped mountains and journey along charming villages, waterfalls, and suspension bridges.

The road to Phaplu is a mix of paved sections and bumpy off-roads giving travelers a rewarding adventure. Day 03:

Phaplu to Trakshindo via Ratnange Danda

Our trek today is a 6-hour journey from Phaplu to Trakshindo. The trek begins with a steady ascent from Phaplu and takes you through dense pine and rhododendron forests. If you are trekking this route in spring, prepare to be mesmerized by the vibrant colors of wildflowers and the beautiful rhododendrons.

The trail continues toward Ratnange Danda. You can get panoramic vistas of the Himalayan range, including peaks like Nimbur and Everest. This is also an excellent resting sport. Enjoy the crisp mountain air, and capture breathtaking photographs of the surroundings.

Next, the journey takes you through quaint villages and terraced fields gradually encountering traditional Sherpa villages adorned with prayer flags and small chortens, giving you a glimpse into the local lifestyle. Along the way, you can find small rest stops to refuel with refreshments and interact with the friendly locals before reaching Trakshindo.

Trakshindo, located at 3100 meters, is home to the Traskshindo Monastery. This is a serene spiritual landmark that enriches your visit to the village.

Day 04:

Trakshindo to Saharsha Beni Trek

The trek from Trakshindo to Saharsha Beni is fairly technical as the trail takes you to the serene higher altitude of the Solu region. You’ll be trekking for approximately 5 to 6 hours beginning with a gradual ascend through pine, oak, and rhododendron forests.

As you reach a higher altitude, the panoramic views of snow-capped Himalayas, including Numbar and Karyolung leave you mesmerized. Here, you can take short breaks as you immerse into the spectacular scenery of the surrounding landscape.

Next, the trail meanders through small Sherpa settlements and terraced fields. These Sherpa villages, on the way to Saharsha Beni, further provide insight into their unique culture, traditions, and lifestyle.

The final stretch of the day’s trek includes a steep climb over more rugged terrain, with occasional rocky sections. However, upon completing this climb, you are rewarded with spectacular mountain views from Saharsha Beni. You will rest in a tea house at Saharsha Beni soaking in the tranquil beauty of the high-altitude wilderness.

Day 05:

Saharsha Beni to Dudh Kunda Trek and Back to Dudh Kunda

Today is the highlight of your 7-day journey as we ascend to Dudh Kunda. The 3-hour journey comprises ascents along the rugged trails that gradually lead to the rocky alpine terrain. The early-hour trek immerses you in the crisp mountain air and the stunning sunrise makes the journey further enchanting as you approach the sacred Dudh Kunda.

Dudh Kunda is located at the base of Mt. Numbar and Mt Karyalung. The lake offers stunning views of these towering peaks and the surrounding landscapes. The lake is a revered religious destination for both Hindus and Buddhists. During the annual full moon day of Janai Purnima, pilgrims in large numbers flock to this sacred lake to perform rituals and bathe in its waters which are believed to possess spiritual powers.

After spending some time in the tranquil lake, you trace your steps back to Saharsha Beni. The downhill journey is less strenuous and allows you to revisit scenic viewpoints and rest points.

Day 06:

Saharsha Beni to Phaplu via Ringmo

The journey from Saharsha Beni to Phaplu combines trekking and an hour-long drive. Starting from Saharsha Beni, you begin your descent to the lower altitudes of the Solu region through pristine alpine landscapes. The journey revisits the lush rhododendron, pine, and oak forests.

After approximately 4 hours of trekking, you will reach Ringmo. Here, you can rest and enjoy a warm meal amid the serene environment displaying local Sherpa heritage.

After a brief stop, you will return to the trekking trails to hike for another hour until you find a private vehicle waiting to drive you to Phaplu. At Phaplu, you will settle in a cozy tea house or lodge where you can recollect the incredible experiences of the past days.

Phaplu to Kathmandu Drive

A Typical Day during the Dudh Kunda Trek

Your day on the Dudh Kunda Trek begins early at your lodge or teahouse, where you’ll enjoy a hearty breakfast while soaking in the tranquil views of the surrounding mountains. Most trekking days start around 7 or 8 am, giving you ample time to prepare and pack for the day ahead.

After trekking for a few hours through forests, villages, and mountain trails, you’ll stop for lunch at a teahouse in a quaint settlement. This one-hour break is an opportunity to rest, refuel with freshly prepared local meals, and enjoy the serenity of your surroundings.

Post-lunch, you’ll continue your trek for another 2 to 3 hours, reaching your destination by late afternoon or early evening. Once there, you’ll have time to explore nearby attractions, such as monasteries, scenic viewpoints, or charming villages.

Evenings are typically spent relaxing at the teahouse. We recommend heading to bed early to ensure you are well-rested for the next day’s adventure.

Dudh Kunda Trek Difficulty

The Dudh Kunda trek is considered an easy to moderately challenging trek. This trek is suitable for people with a decent level of fitness. The trek involves gradual ascents and steep climbs, with the trek from Saharsha Beni to Dudh Kunda being the most difficult. During the final stretch of the trek, trekkers are required to navigate the rocky terrain at a high altitude to reach the Dudh Kunda Lake situated at 4,560 meters. However, after completing the journey, you can expect rewarding views of the surrounding landscapes and magnificent views of Mt. Numbar and Mt. Karyalung.

Likewise, since the trek does not exceed the 5,000-meter altitude, acclimatization may not be required for most trekkers. However, if you experience symptoms related to altitude sickness, inform your guide immediately and seek medical attention.

The drive from Kathmandu to Phaplu is an experience of its own. Trekkers need to get on a 10-hour long ride offering scenic views of beautiful villages, hills, and terraced farms. The road conditions can be rough and bumpy in some places which may cause discomfort to travelers.
